Race Update: Three Village Tour

Race was awesome! 70° sunny and dry....perfect race conditions......

Smallish field.....maybe 30 guys.......Right from the start the Exodus team shot off like it was a CX race! crazy! Mad sprint mode right from the get go. That only lasted about 5 minutes because at mile 2 or 3 started the hills! Roller after roller after roller for the next 4 miles or so. heart and legs are feeling good. A few breaks tried to get away on the first lap but to no avail.......mid way through the first lap......we hit what is know in this race as "THE WALL" a steep 10%~12% climb only about 1/4 mile long but tough enough for good climbers to get away and poor climbers to get dropped. At the top of the climb is a 1/2 mile or so of a false flat maybe 2%.....not easy after "THE WALL" next comes some crazy down hills....long flats into the head wind and then some small rollers and then a fast long slight downhill run into the finish. 1st lap made it through all together. A one or two man break got away on the 2nd lap.....they had maybe 25-30 seconds. It all came back together on lap 3. into lap 4 Steven from bethel cycle went for it on a solo break and got up to 45 seconds lead. I'm feeling pretty good after each lap doing some work and setting the tempo up the rollers to try and not let the break get to much of a gap. we brought it back to 25 seconds and then Ernie from exodus made a solo chase to catch Steven. The two were never caught and came in 1st and 2nd. Last lap of the race I had some twinges of leg cramps again but not to bad at all. I positioned myself right at the front coming into the final 1000m.......Legs were good......I was fighting off a calf cramp in my right leg but was able to get off a good sprint anyways......all out effort in my 53-11 came across the line in 5th place.......7th overall because of the break away. I was super happy with my performance......glad I was able to at least have the legs to sprint at the end. The last few I had nothing left in the legs to give it a go at then end....just able to hang on for the finish......This time I actually was able to go for it....good feeling and good result.
